APPEAL: THE 66TH ANNUAL KAMPUCHEA KROM LOSS COMMEMORATION IN PHNOM PENH ON JUNE 04, B.E.2559 A.D.2015
Mon the 2nd Waning Moon of Visakha BE2559, May 4, AD2015 Year of the Goat
June 4, 2015 is the 66th Anniversary of Kampuchea Krom Loss (June 4, 1949 – June 4, 2015) of the day the French colonialists transferred Kampuchea Krom, land size 68,965 square kilometers (equivalent 26,628 square miles), to colonial Vietnam to continue colonizing to the present time and it is the day that the Khmers suffered the most in our history.
To remember this historic great loss and to pay our gratitude (honor) to our heroic Buddhist monks and heroes, who sacrificed their lives in this noble cause of defending the Khmer race to this present day, the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community has observed (marked) June 4th annually as the Saddest Day of Khmer Nation and organizing a Memorial Service by inviting 1,949 Buddhist monks to pray, chant, and emanate the merits to honor the fallen Buddhist monks, heroes, and compatriots, who defended the Nation, Religion and Kampuchea Krom with their lives fearlessly.
This year, like any other years, the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community in Kingdom of Cambodia and abroad have unanimously decided to observe the 66th Annual Memorial Service by holding the ceremony in Phnom Penh with the eminent presence of 1,949 Buddhist Monks and anticipating thousand people to attend. Organizing expenses from previous years come from our members, compatriots, donors, and especially the members, compatriots and donors from abroad. With your generous contributions, this event becomes successful and visible annually.
As Organizing Committee Chair, I wish to appeal to members of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community and our compatriots to make your charitable contributions to help cover the cost of holding the historic event like years past.
This appeal is also a request for your honor presence to the venerable Buddhist monks, members, compatriots, and the public.
Your attendance and contributions will help serve the interest of the Khmer people and motherland Kampuchea Krom by honoring and paying our gratitude to the heroic Buddhist monks and heroes.
The Organizing Committee and I wish to express our profound appreciations in advance for your patriotism in giving and supporting this landmark memorial service.
Memorial Service commences on June 4, 2015 from 7:30AM – 11:00AM at Freedom Park, Phnom Penh, auspiciously presides by His Majesty The King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni’s Highest Royal Representative.
May You, The Most Venerable Buddhist Monks, Venerable Buddhist monks, members, and lay-persons achieve the 4 blessings of the Lord Buddha: Longevity, Brightness, Healthiness and Strength in eternity.

Died for the Khmer nation and religion in B.E.2365 A.D.1821
The Vietnamese government beheads [executes] Oknha Son Kuy to exchange the invading VN regime from annihilating the Khmer race, Theravada Buddhism, national language, heritage, culture, custom, tradition, and way of life of the Khmers in Kampuchea Krom.
This happens right before colonial France colonizes Kampuchea Krom and renames this part of the Khmer Empire to French Cochinchine or French Cochinchina. Since then the ruling Vietnamese governments have not kept their promise; human rights violations commit by the VN government unabatedly throughout today.
Oknha Son Kuy joins the public or national service at age 20. He serves the nation bravely.
Oknha Son Kuy has 5 closest associates in arms, combat and war: [Phuchhuoy or District Administrator] Kong, Mr. Meun Ek, Mr. Ta Mong, Mr. Tesa Saom (Some called him Ansa Saom), and Mr. Ta Mono Ros. They courageously fight to deter the invading Vietnamese army along side Oknha Son Kuy.
Oknha Son Kuy traditionally proposes and marries Miss Phoeun his beloved bride in Preah Trapeang provincial city. Miss Phoeun is the daughter of Khmer farmers.
The Khmer king [King Ang Chan?] decreed Oknha Son Kuy as Governor of Preah Trapeang province, Kingdom of Cambodia [Then the name of Kampuchea Krom did not exist].
Phuchhuoy Kong commits treason. He betrays the Khmers and Oknha Son Kuy by leading the troop into the awaiting ambushed Vietnamese troops. However, the Vietnamese ruler repays Phuchhuoy Kong for loving the Vietnamese people than his own Khmer people by executing him the same style as they have done upon Oknha Son Kuy.
The remains [body] of Oknha Son Kuy still buries in Preah Trapeang provincial city today. His stupa (Chedi or tomb) still stands within the compounds of Bodhisalaraja Buddhist Temple (or popularly known as Wat Kampong).
The Words of Oknha Son Kuy in B.E.2365 A.D.1821 before His Final Breath on this Earth
Oknha Son Kuy makes his final statement toward the Khmer Buddhist monks and citizens, which all Khmers must remember them in their hearts, “I am moved very much to have seeing [our] compatriots and Buddhist monks before I depart this life. I beg for your forgiveness from [our] compatriots and their Venerable Buddhist monks for I do not possess sufficient ability to serve our Motherland any more. Therefore I must end my life so that our [Khmer] Nation lives on without a bit of remorse. Now our custom, tradition, culture and Khmer Buddhism have returned after the demand. Therefore, may Your Venerable Buddhist Monks and all compatriots preserve, defend, protect and guard them religiously from perishing. May Your Venerable Buddhist Monks and compatriots remember and understand clearly that our Khmer race used to be superior and widely known throughout the world. Therefore we must be firm and united always, do not believe the enemy’s tricks, do not sell yourself to any enemies so that they can kill your own nation and compatriots for personal interest. In the end, I believe clearly that I, as an individual, die, but…there will be millions of future Khmer children and compatriots, who are highly patriotic and bravely willing to sacrifice, die, defend, protect, guard and preserve the national sovereignty, liberty, Buddhism and Khmer race so they can live on.”
Approximately 42 years after the death of Oknha Son Kuy, colonial France, one of the superpower nations from Europe, colonizes and turns the Kingdom of Cambodia into French Protectorate. Part of Kampuchea Krom today is renamed to French Cochinchine or French Cochin China by the French colonialists. When colonial French arrive on the shores of Kampuchea [Krom] then, the Khmers and Vietnamese are still fighting.
Please kindly view the history and biography of Oknha Son Kuy compiled and written on August 20, B.E.2515 A.D.1971 by Mr. Keo Sovathi, officer in the Cambodian National Army.

The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community
Kampuchea Krom is rich in history and civilized culture before the Vietnamese settlers arrived on the northern border with Champa Kingdom.
Kampuchea Krom is the oldest land in Southeast Asia.
The Khmers called this part of the Khmer Empire [Present day Kingdom of Cambodia], Kampuchea Krom. Kampuchea Krom is also known as Lower Cambodia, Mekong Delta, or Cochin China. The Khmer populations of this beautiful landscapes share the same race,
religion, national language, culture, custom, tradition, and great history as the Khmers in Cambodia. Kampuchea Krom is slightly smaller in size than her motherland, Kingdom of Cambodia.
Kampuchea Krom or Cochinchina becomes part of French Indochina on October 17, B.E.2431, A.D.1887.
To view large map of Kampuchea Krom click on image.
KAMPUCHEA KROM AT A GLANCE
Kampuchea Krom is composed of 68,965 square kilometers (equivalent 26,628 square miles), 21 provinces and municipalities, two large islands – Koh Tral and Koh Tralach, 171 districts, 1,368 communes, 14,778 villages, more than 13 million Khmers, more than 567 Buddhist pagodas and more than 20,000 Theravada Buddhist monks.
99% of populations are Theravada Buddhists.
The Khmer kings, governments, regimes and citizens have never relinquish (give up) this part of their country to foreigners.
Kampuchea Krom has been under an ongoing colonial control since her division from motherland, Cambodia.
June 4, B.E.2493, A.D.1949 is the date that the Khmer Kampuchea Krom citizens grieve. The Khmer Kampuchea Krom people have organized Buddhist Service annually to honor the fallen Khmer Buddhist monks and heroes, who sacrificed their lives for Kampuchea Krom and Theravada Buddhism.
Colonial France divided, ceded and transferred Kampuchea Krom to colonial Vietnam on this date. The freedom of Khmer Kampuchea Krom has been mostly stripped by the Vietnamese ruling regimes and governments since. The French colonial administration committed injustice upon the more than 13 million Khmers of this beautiful fertile land.
Justice remains elusive for Cambodia, Kampuchea Krom and her citizens.
And…The struggle to regain freedom and human rights by the Khmers in Kampuchea Krom continues as long as injustice commits by the ruling Vietnamese regime(s) has not produced a fruitful result.
The followings are Khmer provincial, municipal and island names that the Vietnamese authorities have changed repeatedly. (more…)
