The Mekong River is a 4,350 km (2,702.965 miles) waterway that starts in the Tibetan Plateau and winds through six countries—China (Tibet/Yunnan), Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam—before emptying into the South China Sea.
Along the way, it changes names, from Lancang in China to simply “Mekong” downstream, and shifts character from wild mountain rapids to a vast, fertile delta that feeds millions.
