Obituary: Decedent Kien Thi Soy

Mrs. Kien Thi Soy, alson known as Kien Thi Chia, age 56 and 3 months, passed away on Friday July 31, B.E.2553, A.D.2009 at 4:10AM in Nanaimo General Hospital, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

Her body lies in state at the Sand Funeral Chapels, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, British Columbia, V9S 4H6 Canada. Telephone: 250-753-2032.

Mrs. Kien Thi Soy was born on April 4, 1953, in Me Rong Thmei village, Me Rong commune, Phnordach district, Preah Trapeang province, Kampuchea Krom a little bit more than three years after France gives Khmer land to Vietnam.

Mrs. Kien Thi Soy married to Mr. Thach Ven in 1984 and lived together until the day of her passing away.

Mr. Kien Thi Soy visited Kampuchea Krom three times since resettled in Canada in 1994. She and her husband used the home-comings to hold Khmer traditional Buddhist ceremonies at Wat Surinrajapriksa Slaa Paang and Wat Kong Meanjaya Me Rong Thmei.

Mrs. Kien Thi Soy is survived by her husband and 4 grown children.

The family of the decedent plans to organize her funeral in the Khmer Buddhist tradition. Their youngest son will be ordained in front of his late beloved mother to honor her in Khmer culture. The highest honor a son could act.

The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community has just lost another extraordinary Khmer woman.
